This month there is a lot going on! We’ve got our quilting groups meeting regularly, working on our Third Moon Women quilt; the water activism group are gathering to find out more about this precious resource; plus there’s a Kasama Table Gathering at the end of the month! Find out more about all these events on our Facebook page.
On International Women’s Day (Sat 8th March), a small group of us met at Langney Community Centre in Eastbourne to create cards of encouragement for other women. We were really privileged and encouraged ourselves by joining in with a group who meet on Zoom from different places around the USA. It felt like a sacred moment to exchange poems of solidarity and hear about their plans for resistance.
Our very own Ruthie brought a poem which really moved us. Here it is
Sisters Unseen
A thread of silk, unseen, yet strong,
Across the globe, where we belong,
From sun-kissed shores to frosted peaks,
Through sisterhood, the spirit speaks.
In bustling markets, voices rise,
In quiet homes, where wisdom lies.
A gentle hand, a knowing glance,
A shared burden, a hopeful dance.
In fields of green, where crops take hold,
In city streets, where stories unfold.
A whispered word, a fierce embrace,
A legacy of strength and grace.
Through trials faced, and battles won,
A tapestry of courage, spun.
From ancient roots to modern days,
We lift each other, in countless ways.
No borders hold, no oceans keep,
The bond we share, both wide and deep.
A chorus swells, a rising tide,
With open hearts, we stand side by side.
For every tear, a hand to dry,
For every dream, that reaches high.
Network woven, banners unfurled
Women’s voices across the world
by Ruthie Colcombe
We’ll be working out how to maintain our connection with the amazing group of women on the other side of the pond.
